Join me on my long journey northbound to Maine.
My name is Logan, and I am an avid backpacker and prior Store Manager of Ballahack Outdoor who currently is thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail. The Appalachian Trail is 2192 mile footpath that runs from Georgia to Maine and spans across 14 states. You might ask why someone would want to hike 2000 miles. Well, the answer for many isn’t as simple as you think. Some hike for adventure whereas others hike to get away from your 9am-5pm cycle. The truth is, there are a plethora of reasons one could have to thru-hike and even after my prior thru hike attempt of 2017 I still don’t have my reason.
I had come across the concept of thru-hiking while I was doing gear research for a planned hiking trip through Shenandoah National Park. At the time I had thought it was a cool thing to do but dismissed it as something I would want to do but never would.
It wasn’t until my first Job out of High School that I had met my coworker with the trail name Indigo. A trail name is something that your hiking peers endow you with, and usually reflects the persons actions or have some sort of story that relates to the individual. Indigo had thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail and backpacked Europe and only After my countless questions and curiosity on the topic, I was convinced! I set out early the year of 2017 on my thru hike attempt. Unfortunately like many I had ran out of money and was unable to continue my journey northbound.
After my failed attempt I just couldn’t shake the idea of Backpacking. So I’m back for round two. Join me on my trek northbound and stay updated with weekly blogs. I’ll be blogging about my general progress northbound, tips & tricks, and various other backpacking topics.
